Blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus)

Blobfish are also known as Smooth-head blobfish. Blobfish are endangered because of deep sea trawling. Deep sea trawling is a type fishing that involves dragging a fishing net over the bottom of the ocean. The bottom of the ocean is where blobfish live. When fishermen drag the nets across the bottom of the sea they catch and kill many blobfish. And they also destroy the blobfishes habitat. Blobfish usually do not swim at all. Their bones are soft and they do not have any scales. Blobfish eat sea slugs and worms because they are the only prey slower than it.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
You can help by not buying fish that was caught with a trawling net. You can also not buy fish from a supplier that uses trawling as a way of fishing. To check if the seafood you want to buy or eat is not caught by trawling you can either ask the fish seller or go to this website: Seafood watch search
